With all that pseudo new rave, flashy electro hip hop happening all around, I thought it'd be a good time to pay a little visit to the darkness. What else than some good ol' new wave synth music to get into the mood. I have been neglecting this blog for a while, since the "erasing-by-mistake-the-blog-on-my-server" incident. So I feel now i have to give my few readers some love. I've been able to put back most of the mp3s and images in place, but I am still missing a few, so those ones will have to stay in our memories. But I learnt my lesson and everything is backed up from now on.

For the love part, I am throwing here a massive 20mb - 14min epic disco track. The obscure outfit name is Computer, I dare you to google them. The project is emerging from France (of course) and the tracks are credited to J.F. Porry and G. Sals who are known for scoring a lot Saturday morning cartoon in France (french versions for My Little Poney, Carebears, Smurfs, Goldorak, etc.). Which makes me think that it's Saturday morning now, and I should not be sitting in front of my computer. Here's the neverending track.

Alien glam rock band playing disco? Yes, thanks to Les Rockets, it is possible. Emerging from France in the mid-70s, those bald headed weirdos managed to make tracks that prove that there are other lifeforms in this universe and they can r o c k. The sound of those silver creatures is somewhere between Telex, ZZ Top and prog rock !!! Hear for yourself :

Oh. I forgot to mention that Les Rockets were produced by Claude Lemoine, father (and also producer) of the infamous prodigy kid Jordy. This bit of information is somehow, scary.

After more than 10 years of wondering where the hell that song comes from, thanks to Schizophrénie CISM, the mystery is now solved. I really took the long way to realize that I was calling "La Gata" from a band named "Generentola" (see my last post) is in fact a song called "Secondo Coro Delle Lavandaie" taken from the modern opera "La Gatta Cenerentola" (Cinderella's Cat) by Roberto De Simone of the NCCP. There are some differences between the 2 versions, apart from the bad sound quality of the bootleg, you can notice a growling and a weird jump cut that does not appear on the original version. Here's the cleaner and original version :

Bonfire and Crack Madness.

Rituals, celebrations, cheap cooking, etc. There is always a good reason for a bonfire. So far, the only equivalent to dancing around a sacred 'feu de joie' I found is the track 'La Gata' by the mysterious italian outfit 'Generentola'.

DJ Prions en Église asked me for some historical details on the track. Here's what I have : La Gata became an undergound dancefloor hit in the late 80s in Montreal after some employees of the now defunct record store Wow released it on a bootleg compilation called "Strange Pleasures Vol. 1". It was apparently taken from a 12" they got a few copies of at the store (God, I'd kill to get my hands on one). Some further investigations brought me to think this was a reashed traditional song from the Napoli region. My source (a nice gentleman named Gino in Barcelona) even indicated me that the lyrics were made from an old italian dialect from the same region.

"I take two steps forward and two steps back. Two steps forward and smoke some crack. Crack Daddy yes I am (repeat). Crack Daddy hung like an elephant (repeat)." Need I say more ... (i am just lazy, really). Go go go Crack Daddy Slim!

Exercising is fun again.

I am definetly not the type of person to exercise. I have no discipline to go to the gym and spend way too much time in front of the computer screen. Fortunately, my love for dancing is inconditional. But bringing gymnastics into a funky percussive disco track (think of a superband with MU, Boredoms and Les Georges Leningrad produced by Larry Levan) might just help to work my cardio even more. Misen Gymastics by Japanese artist Oorutaichi was brought to my ears by DFA resident dj Tim Sweeney during his always pleasant Beats In Space radio show. It is definetly the sweetest track I heard so far in this new year (it was actually released last September).

In June last year, super chic designers Hervé and Paul of Cabine released Disko Cabine. A compilation filled with great tracks by some of their über talented acquaintances. This means nothing more than Felix Kubin, Stereo Total, Stereolab, Cobra Killer, Jeans Team, Elli Medeiros, Brigitte Fontaine, Jacno and many more all regrouped on this dream-come-true cd.

The track i am putting here is from the magnifique feline bass grinder Electronicat Another distorted take on rockabilly by the cat with Japanese vocals delivered by Koneko aka Miss Le Bomb.

It's the new trend. Vegans with vegetable oil fueled low riders riding across town with silk-screenened 24" and subwoofers that would scare Lil' Flip. Following this new tradition, Camouflage Nights gave grinding a new face on their Make Mine Records 7" released in late 2005. Those guys arise from Toronto and used the services of very famous Canadians (Buck 65 and Feist) on this 2 tracks single that made me dance for the past few weeks. You can check out the "Myspace meets American Apparel meets Britney-Spears-Slave-For-You-Video" videoclip here. But I strongly suggest you listen the track only, it does it better for me :

Nothing makes me happier than disco that sounds like it was made for a science documentary. Just like Hipnosis, that's exactly what the Donna Laser Orchestra delivers. There's not much information on this early 80s italo disco outfit but when you close your eyes while listening to their sound... you can see yourself dancing on Saturn's rings with cyber centaurs and space vikings.

Ok. So we have been dancing for a while now and as you can see, we are getting pretty good at it. Flaky Disco is our club night at Zoobizarre, but we felt the urge to bring the good news outside of the dancefloor straight to your home. So like zillion other blogs, we're going to post music we like and make stupid comments and geeky references.

And now for a blast from the past, back in 1980 with a 15 year old Alexander Hacke. Before he discovered he could make music with random objects from the hardware store and joined Einststürzende Neubauten, Hacke started his career with P1/E.
